Exploring the Terroir of Alwar: The Organic Source of Thaaro's Purity

18 May 2026

Take a virtual tour of our organic pastures in Nijamnagar, Alwar, where premium A2 milk begins with happy, roaming Desi cows.

The Sacred Soil of Nijamnagar

Purity begins at the source. Nestled between the undulating ridges of the ancient Aravalli Hills in Alwar, Rajasthan, lies the hamlet of Nijamnagar. This region enjoys an incredibly unique terroir—semi-arid, sun-drenched, and blessed with calcium-rich well water. This unique environmental combination directly influences the variety of grasses and medicinal herbs that grow in our pastures, which form the diet of our beloved Gir and Sahiwal cows.

Grazing: The Foundational Step in A2 Ghee

In modern commercial dairying, cows are tied to stalls all day and fed synthetic feed pellets to maximize milk volume. At Thaaro, we practice an ethical 'Calf-First' grazing model. Our cows roam freely for 6-8 hours every single day, selectively foraging on seasonal grasses, neem leaves, acacia pods, and wild tulsi. This diverse natural forage ensures their milk is loaded with beta-carotene, giving our ghee its distinct, glowing golden hue and complex floral aroma.

Chemical-Free Stewardship

Our pastures are strictly 100% chemical-free. We use no chemical pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or growth hormones. Instead, we nourish the land using traditional 'Jeevamrutha'—an organic soil inoculant brewed on-farm using cow dung, urine, jaggery, and pulse flour. This circular farming methodology builds robust soil microbiomes, which lead to nutrient-dense grass, healthy cows, and ultimately, exceptionally pure ghee.

A Day in the Life of Our Cows

A typical day at the Thaaro farm begins at the break of dawn. The cows are greeted with hymns and Vedic mantras, which promote a peaceful and stress-free lactation cycle. The calves are then fed first; only after the calf has drunk its fill is the surplus milk collected for human consumption. This ethical care is not just moral—it reduces stress-hormones like cortisol in the milk, resulting in highly satvic, pure, and healing food.
